The Relativity and Gravitation group receives the Jaume II award

The Relativity and Gravitation group of the University of the Balearic Island has been awarded one of the "Premi Jaume II" by the Consell de Mallorca for their participation in the discovery of gravitational waves through the LIGO Scientific Collaboration.

The Mallorca Plenary Council approved the list of honors and awards winners of 2016 in their first plenary session after the summer break and, as every year, they were presented during the central activity of the Diada de Mallorca on September 12th in the Teatro Principal of Palma.

During this event more awards were also given, such as the "Medal of Honour and Gratitude", the "Title of Favourite Son of Mallorca", the "Title of Adoptive Son of Mallorca", the "Diploma of Honorary Services" and the "Jaume II awards".

The Relativity and Gravitation group of the UIB already won the Onda Cero Mallorca 2016 award for Science and Research this year, and as a member of the LIGO Scientific Collaboration also the Gruber Cosmology Price and the special Breakthrough Price of fundamental physics.
