The Relativity and Gravitation Group Onda Cero award for Science and Research

26 February, 2016

The V Onda Cero Mallorca Award winners have already been selected. The jury of this edition, composed of twenty distinguished representatives of the mallorquin society, has awarded this recognition to persons and groups having stood out by their work inside and outside the islands in seventeen different categories.

The Onda Cero Mallorca 2016 award for Science and Research, sponsored by Quely, has gone to the Relativity and Gravitation Group of the University of the Balearic Islands, for being the only spanish group having participated in the first detection of gravitational waves by the LIGO Scientific Collaboration. This detection has confirmed an important prediction of the theory of General Relativity that Albert Einstein published in 1915 and has opened an unprecedented new window to the cosmos.
