UIB Relativity Group leads REDONGRA, a new gravitational waves network in Spain

25 July, 2012

The UIB Relativity and Gravitation Group leads the gravitational waves thematic network REDONGRA, which will coordinate gravitational waves research groups in Spain. Carles Bona, a member of the UIB group, is the principal investigator of this new network, integrated by 38 Spanish researchers engaged in research in this field.

REDONGRA is part of the FPA (National Program for Particle Physics) and it has financial support from the Ministry of Economy and Competitiveness.

Some of the main objectives of the network are:

  • Coordinate the different Spanish research groups that currently work on gravitational waves.
  • Provide a forum for interaction for groups from different scientific fields involved: High Energy Physics, Astrophysics, General Relativity and Advanced Instrumentation Engineering.
  • Provide a platform for dissemination of research results, both within and outside the scientific community.

To do so REDONGRA will organize conferences and workshops on gravitational waves, as well as it will create a website with information on different groups, activities and research results.

The UIB members that belong to this network are: Carles Bona, Sascha Husa, Alicia Sintes, Jordi Burguet, Ryuichi Fujita, Milton Ruiz, Alex Vañó y Juan Calderón.

The other researchers who integrate REDONGRA belong to the Institute of Space Sciences (CSIC), University of Alicante, University of Barcelona, Autonomous University of Madrid, University of Granada, Murcia University, the Polytechnic University of Catalonia and the University of Valencia.
