We are pleased to share that Jorge Valencia Gómez, PhD student in the Gravitational Physics: Theory and Observation group and member of the IAC3, has been awarded the Extraordinary Prize for the academic year 2022-2023 for the Master’s Degree in Advanced Physics and Applied Mathematics (FAMA) by the University of the Balearic Islands (UIB).

This prestigious distinction is awarded annually by the UIB to the students with the highest academic performance in each official master’s degree programme. The selection is made by the Academic Committee of the UIB, following the criteria established by the Postgraduate Studies Centre. To be eligible, students must have completed the programme with a final average grade of 8.0 or higher out of 10.

Jorge received the prize during the Closing Ceremony of the 2025 Postgraduate Week, held on Friday, 16 May at the UIB Son Lledó auditorium. This event celebrated excellence in postgraduate education and research and brought together students, researchers, and faculty from across the university.

Jorge joined the IAC3 and the Gravitational Physics group after completing his Physics degree, and pursued the FAMA master’s programme as a member of the group. He is currently working on his doctoral thesis in the field of gravitational wave science.

Congratulations, Jorge, on this well-deserved recognition!
